For thousands of years, people throughout civilizations around the world have harnessed the sun's immense energy to power their lives. The sun's solar rays were used to cook food, and much later, to power calculators, increase the productivity of crops, and generate electricity for homes, schools and office buildings. This ancient practice is now experiencing a revival in American suburbia, as some homeowners have the chance to lease solar rooftop panels, with what's being called a "residential solar lease."

This no-money-down, low-monthly plan makes solar electricity much less expensive than it typically costs: Buying and installing a solar panel system costs a homeowner between $20,000 and $50,000.


Wall Street developed this new financing plan as a way to make solar energy more financially feasible and desirable for homeowners. Proponents of the residential solar lease compare the plan to a car lease: Homeowners don't have to buy and install the solar panels. Instead, they rent a rooftop solar array for a monthly fee. Customers sign a contract that binds them to this agreement for a specific period of time, and at the end of the contract they have the option to either extend the lease or buy the panels. Currently, companies charge about $100 a month for a solar lease over a 15-year contract period.

Proponents of residential solar leases expect that these leases will take off in sun-drenched states, which already suffer from rising utility rates. California, for instance, has one of the highest electricity rates in the United States and boasts the world's third-largest solar-power market. As the sun shines on and energy costs continue to rise, leasing solar rooftop panels may end up making a lot of financial and environmental sense.

Assuming these proponents are correct, the United States is going to need a workforce to meet the demand. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that solar energy could create more than 1 million new jobs by the year 2030. On January 6, the U.S. Department of Labor announced nearly $100 million in green jobs training grants authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The money will support job-training programs to assist unemployed people with finding careers in green industries. The goal of the grant is to prepare workers for jobs as (among other professions) solar panel installers.

"[This] announcement is part of the administration's long-term commitment to fostering both immediate economic revitalization and a clean energy future. It's an investment that will help American workers succeed while doing good," said Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis in a press release.
This recent grant funding is part of a much larger Recovery Act initiative of $500 million to fund workforce development projects that prepare workers for careers in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries to promote economic growth. This news from President Obama's administration clearly shows the direction of America's future: A shift to a low-carbon, clean way of powering our houses, cars and lives, and an investment in the workforce to get us there.
Buildings in the United States use one-third of all energy consumed and two-thirds of all electricity. This massive amount of energy use contributes to climate change and pollution, by accounting for 49 percent of sulfur-dioxide emissions, 25 percent of nitrous-oxide emissions and 10 percent of particulate emissions.

Solar rooftop panels allow people to implement measures to green their houses and reduce their energy use. Greening our nation's buildings is critical to the fight against climate change. In the United States alone, buildings account for 38 percent of all carbon-dioxide emissions, and residential buildings are no small part of this statistic. Rooftop solar panels offer a solution to energy consumption and the high economic and ecological cost of using fossil fuel to power our lifestyles.

Write down what you intend to accomplish over the next week and month. Write it down so that you can refer to this schedule and see how it is working out for you. I found that it became more doable once I would see it all written down. I was also able to tweak and change the hours I would be working so that it fit into my current lifestyle. Another thing to consider is that you will be able to write articles and blog posts more easily and much faster over time, and ideas will come that will help you to grow your business more quickly and efficiently. Going green these days can prove to have more advantages than opting for chemically treated and chemical filled products. These products may have been part of our day to day living, making it difficult to get along in our daily routine without them. However, due to their indispensability, several safer and environmental friendly products are now available.


A green product refers to natural products that can be used instead of the inorganic ones. Inorganic products can pose dangers not just to your health but also to the safety of your house. The storage room is where these products are usually kept. Most of the items are cleaning products such as all purpose cleaner, aluminum cleaner, carpet cleaner, drain cleaner, floors cleaner, glass and window cleaner and spot removers. In general, cleaners are made up of detergents, grease cutting agents, disinfectants and solvents.

Some cleaners have all the elements while others only have one or two of those ingredients. Those elements in turn have one or more hazardous ingredients such as monobutyl acetate, trisodium phosphate, ammonia, ethylene glycol and sodium hypochlorite.

Ammonia fume is known to irritate the eyes and lungs. It can also produce toxic chloramines gas if combined with products containing chlorine.  Monobutyl acetate and ethylene glycol are traced as the culprit to the deaths of hundreds of cats and dogs every year that are poisoned because they licked empty containers.  Its sweet smell attracts animals.

Sodium hypochlorite on the other can give off an irritating fume and can be corrosive to the skin and mucous membrane.These harmful elements are just but a few of the potentially dangerous ingredients used for various products that are usually placed in the storage room.

But with Green natural cleaning products and non toxic cleaners, you don't have to worry as they are made from natural, environmental friendly components. These products can be found not only in your local grocery stores but better varieties are available from companies that specialize in better safer alternatives. Not since the hey-day of the Incredible Hulk, has the airways been so filled with the color green. It seems that every night the news contains a story on Global Warming or Green Products. We are being deluged with the message and so are your customers. What is causing this bombardment of the current green awareness issue?

Could it be the high gas prices, the shrinking of the polar bears' habitat, the intense hurricane seasons, or the realization that the earth's resources are being depleted? Whatever the reason, retailers as well as entrepreneurs, are jumping on the band wagon to find ways to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.


So as responsible business people and members of the human race, what do you do? Should you trade in your Hummer for a Prius, turn off all your electricity and go solar, eat only food grown in your back yard or join the tree hugger movement? Well maybe you don't need to go to those extremes. There are some relatively minor steps you can take that will both help the environment and your profits.


As responsible retailers and business owners we need to be proactive in the Global Warming Area, not only to improve our image with the customer, but our profits also. So what do you do to accomplish this goal? The answer is don't fight the trend, embrace it.


Today, more and more customers are shifting their purchases and loyalty to retailers that are moving in the green direction. In turn, more and more retailers are joining the green movement to provide their customers with the most eco-friendly products. Retailers have to decide how Going Green will affect the bottom line. Also, is their a competitive threat by not going green
and how long will the current shift towards green last? Is it here to stay or just another cycle?


The most important point is to develop a relationship with your customers. Ask them what they would like to buy and provide them with those products. 1. Buy Energy Star-rated light bulbs and fixtures, which use at least two-thirds less energy than regular lighting. Install timers and motion sensors that automatically shut off light when not needed.

2. Make it a habit to turn off your computer and power strip when you leave for the day.

3. Keep your store cool, not freezing, by raising the thermostat a few degrees.

4. Use and sell re-usable cotton bags in your store.

5. Sell timely merchandise in your store. There are many examples of new products on the market that carry an eco-friendly theme.

6.. Make it a policy to purchase office supplies, packaging materials, and bathroom supplies made from recycled materials.

7. When possible buy natural fabrics for sale in your store, organic when economically feasible.

10. Use suppliers who are environment-aware and preferably small businesses themselves.

They are much more likely to frequent a store that is doing its' part to help save the planet for the children than the big impersonal chain store.
